Time is Fleeting

People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA Victoria) celebrated its 20th Anniversary last month with two separate functions: Planet Positive and a Dinner - both at the Stingo Hotel. The latter of which was attended by the Honourable Minister for Health, Daniel Andrews. I am grateful to the Minister for taking time out of his hectic schedule to be there with us, and thank him, from the bottom of my heart, for his kind words about our organisation and its work advocating for the positive community of this State. A special thanks also to David Menadue who walked the invited guests through a history of the organisation. I am honoured to be the President and incredibly proud of the organisation’s achievements.

On the 13th and 14th of June I attended the Brisbane Pride Festivities. Wally Cowin invited me to speak at “Travel Talk” held on the Friday Night at the Spring Hill Hotel (where I stayed in a lovely room for the duration) hosted by the Brisbane Gay & Lesbian Business Networking Co-op. My speech was about InterPride and I was so happy to spread the word about the organisation I am Region 20 Director of. The following morning I joined the massive crowds at Musgrave Park for the March, Rally, and Fair Day. I spoke with Scott Hampson, President of Brisbane Pride, who informed me that numbers had doubled this year for the march - which was extremely pleasing given the south-eastern corner of the State’s reluctance to embrace tolerance and acceptance of our community. Hopefully this is an indication of the tide turning. I would like to particularly thank the fine folk from GALTA for making me feel so welcome throughout my visit. See pictures from the event on our q scene extra page.

Finally, I would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Alfred Hospital for looking after me so wonderfully during my recent two stays. Without going in to the finer details about the reason for my visits, suffice to say both started in emergency and both ended extremely well [obviously, or I wouldn’t be writing this]. It is comforting to know that when things do go wrong with one’s health, there is a hospital full of professionals to look after it all. We are blessed.
